Fire safety starts with you!

To Our Community Members,

As your Fire Chief, I want to take a moment to speak with you about an issue that affects us all — fire safety. Each year, our department responds to numerous emergencies that could have been prevented through awareness and preparation. Protecting our families, homes, and businesses starts with taking a few simple but critical steps.

Here are some important safety reminders:

  1. Check Your Smoke Alarms
Ensure smoke alarms are installed in every bedroom, outside sleeping areas, and on every level of your home. Test them monthly and replace batteries at least once a year.
  2. Create and Practice an Escape Plan
Every household should have a fire escape plan with at least two ways out of every room. Practice it regularly with your family so everyone knows what to do in an emergency.
  3. Use Heating Equipment Safely
Keep space heaters at least three feet away from anything flammable and never leave them unattended. Have your furnace, fireplace, and chimney inspected annually.
  4. Cook with Caution
Never leave cooking food unattended, and keep flammable items away from your stovetop. Most home fires start in the kitchen — a few seconds of distraction can lead to danger.

Our firefighters are committed to protecting this community, but fire prevention starts at home. By following these simple steps, you can help reduce the risk of fire-related tragedies and keep your loved ones safe.
